When is the cafe open?

We are regularly open as a cafe every weekday (Monday to Friday) in the evening, from 7.30pm to 11pm, and also now at weekends 7.30pm - 11pm. For more, check our Events page.

What do you serve?

We serve a variety of teas, coffee, cordials, cold drinks, light snacks and homemade cake. All our food and drink is vegetarian and ethically sourced as far as possible, with plenty of vegan options. We're constantly looking for ways of expanding the menu. If you'd like to bake, or share a recipe, get in touch, or, better, sign up as a volunteer!

What do you do with the profit?

Profit..? What profit? Currently, the money we take goes towards maintaining and expanding the project - the majority paying council tax.

Or this was the case until September 2009, when the council let us know we wouldn't have to pay any council tax for the year 2009-2010. Currently any money we do have is going into maintenance and also being saved for the future expansion of the project, as we will not be in our current space forever (see the about us page for more details)

I'd like to volunteer. Where do I start?

Simply register using the form of the left pane! Then once you have logged in, you can sign up for roles for events and regular openings - if it's your first time put this in the the 'comment' section and we'll find someone to show you the ropes (or teapots). You can also have a look at the volunteering guide. Don't hesitate to get in touch by e-mail or come along to the cafe to see how it works.

Can I organise an event in the cafe?

The cafe is bookable for events most of the time during weekdays, and some weekend evenings. Check on the calendar that the date and time you would like to hold your event is available for booking, then get in touch with our Events Working Group (soc-cafe-eventsXXXlists.cam.ac.uk (where XXX stands for @)). Please also read the attachment at the bottom of this page entitled 'Information for people using the Cafe for a one off event.doc'.

Can I book the cafe for my private party?

Our policy is that events happening in the cafe, especially in the evening, should be open to everyone, therefore it isn't possible to hold entirely private events.

I'd like to get involved in Cafe Project management and organisation. Where do I start?

Come to a general meeting! They are open to anyone who wants to help & happen every one or two weeks on a weekday early evening. They should be posted on the website and the announce list, though this is not always the case.

Sign up to our "discuss" mailing list to take part in general discussions about management and organisation. Once you have subscribed, you can send a message to soc-cafe-discussXXXlists.cam.ac.uk (where XXX stands for @) to introduce yourself and to indicate what you would like to do - maybe join one or more of our working groups.

I have a question that is not answered here. Who should I ask?
